Making Progress

Today, my treadmill kicked my butt.  To beat the boredom, I picked a pre-programmed workout that combined changes in speed and incline.  The maximum incline during the workout was 8 and the max speed was a brisk walk...any faster and it would have forced me to jog.

Let me just say, it felt so good to work up a good sweat.

Here are the results of my workout:  Just under 2.5 miles in 40 minutes, and it says I burned 400 calories (not sure how accurate that is, but still).  That's amazing for a 40 minute walk (it was the hills that bumped up the burn).  And if you look closely, you can see a sleeping baby on the desk in the background.  Leaving her in the crib downstairs was causing me some separation anxiety.  Plus, I'm still not sure if I trust the monitor to tell me when she needs me.

And, yes, that's an elevation gain of 522ft.

Rylie is now 4 weeks old.  She will be 1 MONTH old on Thursday.  It's hard to believe how time flies.  I will go for my postpartum visit this week.  I'm hoping the doc will give me the green light to start running soon.  I'm feeling very close to my normal self again, and I think I will feel even closer to normal when I can get a good run in.

Here is a closer look at my sleeping little bundle of joy.  A pillow on top of the laptop is a great bed for a morning nap, right?

Nap Time

Apparently a memo went out to everyone in the household that 1:30pm today was official nap time in our bed.  Everyone got it but me.   But don't worry, I squeezed in for 20 minutes of rest to watch my sweet little family sleep before Rylie and I took off for a little walk in this beautiful 66-degree weather.

Tomorrow we will be making our way to Mountain Home to visit my family and feast on all the Thanksgiving food we can find.  We hope everyone has a wonderful and restful holiday with those you love.

Just 5 More Minutes, Mom

Do you ever just want to sleep 5 more minutes, even when someone is waking you up with the promise of a good meal to get your day started?

I should have taken this as a hint that waking her up for her afternoon meal was not on her agenda...

I picked her up but her eyes stayed glued shut.

"I can just eat with my eyes closed, Mom."

Even after a good meal, this is all I got...no response, no "Thanks, Mom," nothing.

At least some good snuggle time came out of it...
Maybe she'll wake up for the next feeding.

Then again, maybe not...

2 weeks

Rylie turned two weeks new yesterday.  I can't believe how time is already flying by.  As of yesterday, she was still sleeping most of the day and night.  Today, however, she has been awake most of the day with only a few short naps.  This has been perfect for having time to sit and stare into her big brownish/greenish/grayish eyes.  I'm still not sure what color they will be.

We also took a little outing to the park as a family. We didn't make it there over the weekend since it has been so windy.  Today, it was cool, but the wind had died down enough for us to venture out.  We walked the entire lake trail which is about 2.25 miles.  It felt great, the trees were beautiful, and the dogs got some much needed exercise.  Now, me and Rylie are hanging out while Ryan is at work for the evening.

I'm going to leave you with a few picture of her very candid facial expressions.  These pictures were taken within a 30-second time span and all while she was sleeping...

So dramatic, even in her sleep.  I love it!

Getting back into it...

Today, Rylie is 10 days old which also means I am 10 days post-op.  I've been feeling well, and my abdominal pain is all but gone, so I decided to try a 30 minute walk on my treadmill because exercise withdrawal is an ugly thing.  Really, the first several days I was in such pain that I couldn't imagine exercising ever again, so it wasn't too hard to go without any regular exercise.  Now that I've been stuck indoors for the majority of the last 10 days (other than 2 short outings with Rylie in the stroller), I was ready to get moving...even if it had to be indoors today.

I put Rylie in her big girl crib for the first time since her monitor was already set up in her room, then I snuck away to the treadmill.  I made it exactly 16 minutes and 48 seconds before I had to go downstairs and peek in on her to make sure she was still asleep and the monitor wasn't missing anything.

This is what I found:

Ok...good.  I stopped at after a full 30 minutes of slow walking.  I kept my speed just below any point of discomfort along my incision site.

Here are the results of my workout:

Yep...It took me 30 minutes to walk just under 1.5 miles.  No shame here.

And this is what I found after my walk:

Deep in thought but still sleeping like a...well, like a baby.

It looks like we are in for some very nice weather this weekend with temps in the 70's.  I'm hoping to drag the whole family to the park for a walk OUTside to take in the fall foliage and fresh air.  I think Rylie will love it (if she doesn't sleep through it).

What are your plans for this beautiful weekend?

Rylie

Rylie Grace came into our world on 10-29-12 at 4:43 pm.  She measured a looong 21.5 inches and weighed in at 8lbs 2oz.  We are so in love with this little girl.

My induction went smoothly and labor was successfully started, but unfortunately, Rylie's heart rate began dropping with each contraction, and she was ultimately delivered by c-section.  She is healthy and happy, and that is all that matters.

We came home from the hospital 1 week ago, today.  We are finally getting some rest and getting into a bit of a routine (if there is such a thing with a newborn).  Now, I'm gonna get off this computer and go spend some time with my baby girl!  More updates to come!
